So here we go. We all have daunting tasks in front of us. Lets help each other through the process by being support system for each other. Two weeks that may last a life time if you are mentally strong and discipline. I am excited to start my own habit and help with yours.
I have a new strategy to help me stop biting my nails, and that is to cut them every few days. I think this will help me a lot. I am also going to mark down every time I catch myself biting them to keep track of how often I do it and if I have improved or worsened my habit. I am feeling good and I think I can break this habit.
ReplyDeleteGreat attitude will always help and you seem to have that! Write the time and thing you are doing to so you can see if there is a pattern!
DeleteI did not watch tv so far and decided to play outside to get my mind off it. Then imgoing to read a book to distract myself and stay away from the television. I got tired of reading so I decided to call my friend to talk.
ReplyDeleteFind things or a project you can get after in the next couple weeks Brendon keep it up and good luck!
DeleteIts going good so far, I was able to complete all my homework on the bus before I got home.
ReplyDeleteGreat Nick but is it well done? Make sure you are not sacrificing quality just to get it done!!!
DeleteWhen I got home today I got staight to my homework. And for everyday I dont sit down and get straight to my homework my mom or dad will mark it on the calender.
ReplyDeleteNice strategy!!! Do your best and you will feel great about yourself. Keep working hard!
DeleteWhen I got home, instead of going on my phone, I put it on silent and started my homework. It toke me about 30 minutes to do and I feel confident that my answers are correct because I didn't feel rushed to finsh my homework. After, my sister wanted me to help her prepare dinner. Helping her toke my about 15 minutes. Doing all of these things I was told to do has filled the time gap I would be spending on my phone. I hope I can do the same thing like I did today for the next 2 weeks.
ReplyDeleteNice job Naomi and I am glad you care not only about getting it done but also making sure you do your best! Enjoy dinner!
DeleteToday has been good so far, I finished all my homework and it was right when i came home but i still get frustrated will everything that is going on at my house we are always going some place this time of year, from sport to sport and with my parents being called into work, you never know whats going to happen.
ReplyDeleteThat's tough Joe but that's life right now. I am glad the day is going well and hope it continues. You have had a great 8th grade year and there is less than a month left for you to enjoy it. As you get older you will obtain more responsibilities and more freedom. Enjoy the ride you are on and keep working hard to not get angry!
DeleteGood advice Mr. Phillips and Joe good job keep up the good work!!!
DeleteSo time to stop texting and driving!!!Started off ok because I forgot to shut my phone off before I entered the car to head home for the day. I remembered once I took the first turn onto main street and shut it off. SO no texts but I need to remember to shut the phone off. I am going to place a reminder on my steering wheel to see if that helps. I found my mind wondering on the way home thinking if I can break the habit and if these strategies will work. I also thought about the workout out I had to do today and that I have to fight through the pain of the workout because in the end my body is so much better off. In just 38 days of working out I can see results in my strength, conditioning and my back pain is gone. I have to think of the feeling I get when I finish the workout. I wish I had a workout buddy or twelve but I do not right now so whoever is out there who wants to join me please let me no. I will post later after my workout and let everyone know how it went!
ReplyDeleteGood job Mr.Phillips!!
DeleteI could not do my homework as soon as i got home because i had to take my dogs outside. After i took them out i went in my room shut off my television and started my homework. It only took me about 20-25 minutes to do. I feel great that i have nothing to worry about
ReplyDeleteAwesome Hunter!!! Now make sure it is in a safe place, a folder, notebook, or binder and get in a habit of doing that as well!
DeleteToday has been good so far ,i havent got mad .Especially I didn't tempt to punch any wall or object.
ReplyDeleteWhen do you punch things Brie? What triggers your anger to punch something? What are your strategies when this anger comes to you?
DeleteSo far been going sort of well I have lost my cool a few times but when I do I don't hurt anyone anystead I just leave it be and walk away.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Thomas, be yourself and focus on being a good person and what you need to do to be a great person!
DeleteToday, I did good with not eating before dinner. However it was very very hard not eating. So i did occupy myself by watching TV. It was hard because afterschool I usually eat my snack while wacthing TV. Tomorrow I think will occupy myself by going outside and playing lacrosse so I am not tempted to eat. Because that strategy, of watching TV was clearly to hard so I will take a differnt approach.
ReplyDeleteRemember Vanessa it is ok to have a healthy snack 2 to 3 hours before dinner. I am glad you made it through day one. Careful with TV because that can be a great spot to sit and snack.
DeleteToday at 6:15 I took My dog for a 1 mile run. I got home at 6:45. It went good but I realized this is going to be hard. I hope though these two week I can make this a good habit. My mom is supporting me and cheering me on before I leave for the run and when I come back, so that helps me a lot with wanting to keep going.
ReplyDeleteIts great to have support Molly and Mom is a great place to go for it. My mom is still my number 1 fan! Why don't you set a goal to try and improve on the time it takes you to run your loop or try to increase it each day. You can always do exercise in your house too! Keep it up!
DeleteToday i accidentally hit someone! I was running and collided! I did my best to pass instead of going aggressive! I collided with someone, however it was an accident! I hope this does not mean i an keeping my habit. I tried to keep my mind off it, and have been practicing passing with Adriano to keep my pace with this project!
ReplyDeleteFrom a guy who had sports anger issues it sounds like you have a habit that you need to correct. Playing sports like soccer you have to expect contact. Once you step on the field there is a risk your taking, one that all athletes take. Most players do not kick you on purpose but are just playing the game which means trying to take the ball from the person who has it. Having that knowledge may help you realize what the opponents are trying to do. When you do get kicked focus your energy on where to be next and what the team needs from you to be a successful team. When you put your energy into retaliating you are hurting your team. I wish you luck in kicking this habit and know if you can it will only help you as you move into high school sports!
DeleteToday it has been great, I havent used my ipad that much. I went outside today and i looked at the cloudes and exercised and i even watched tv for the frist time in along time but it was hard not using it.
ReplyDeleteKeep busy with projects or activities. Come up with a schedule before you get home each day to keep your mind away from the ipad. Set aside a time to use the ipad and then put it away once the time is up. Maybe set a timer or have someone take it away from you when time is up. Keep working!
DeleteI have achieved my goal today ! Instead of waiting for my parents to tell me to do my homework I just did it. I ended my homework at 4:40 today.I also did activities before my parents asked me to do it so I didn't have talk back so far. This habit is going to be hard to break but I know I'm going to be able to do it !
ReplyDeleteAfter school I when to my moms work and I brought my own snacks from home so I didn't spend money on things I didn't need
ReplyDeleteGreat job Jake keep it up!!!!!!!
DeleteWhen someone asked me a question i had told the truth. What motivated me to tell the truth was the time in 1st grade when i got in trouble for lying. I thought off first grade and said "i don't want to go through that awful time again" so i told the truth!!! One question that i could ask myself would be "Would God want me to do this".

ReplyDeleteThe habit I'm trying to break is to stop interrupting a person when we are engaged in a conversation. But the problem is that my strategies on how to tackle this problem is not as effective as I hoped it would be. I believe it would be better (as always) to start from scratch again with another habit. The habit I would like to fix is eating with an electronic device (Normally a laptop or T.V. remote to flip through the channels). The reason I end up doing this habit is because of I would like to be entertained while consuming my meal. Another reason is doing my homework to get it over it. The side effects of doing this is touching the devices with dirty hands (but I do clean the devices afterwards) or having the risk of spilling my drink over a device like a laptop. Not to mention, my parents hate this habit when I perform it. There are several ways of tackling this problem. My dad will aid me in the process by changing the password for the laptop and then revealing the password after the meal. He will also take away the remote from me and leave the television off. My mother suggested that I should have a conversation with them (like talking about how may day at school at or what I learned that I never knew about). I would also, after a few days, like to see if I get any urges to get a device with and without my parents' help.
ReplyDeleteMr. Philips, I would like to apologies for changing my habit at the last moment and creating such a long message. I will be careful of posting lengthy comments in the future. But I tried this method out and it did work. I did not feel any urges because I was really engaged in the discussion with my parents.
Jeeval no apologies needed. It is not the length of the comment whether or not it comes from the heart. Yours clearly does and I am fine with your habit change. I however am shocked you changed because your first strategies did not work. Part of life is about finding alternative solutions to problems once plan A B C etc fail. Do the habit you really want to give up and I will support it.
DeleteHey guys well i spend at least 20-30 minutes on my iPod now and i spend my time listing to music, playing with my little cousins or playing basketball or something sport or outside related. I've also go on my computer and go per some of the lyrics for the songs we have to do for the musical and get better at that so it's been really well!

ReplyDeleteThe first day went good. I shut my phone and iPod off at 10:00 o' clock. Trying to break this habit is going to be hard, but I know I can do it with the support of everyone.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was tough because I was so used to biting my nails I sometimes would end up doing it, but once I got home and entertained myself I wasn't tempted.
ReplyDeleteDay one was very hard for me. I couldnt help but go on the computer. My parents are trying to help out but its going to be hard. Hopefully Day 2 will be easier.
ReplyDeleteIt was really esy doing my habit because i just played basketball the whole day. I watched TV when I got home for about 20-30 before I went to bed.
ReplyDeleteYesterday went less than well. I was doing a lot of running. I caught myself procrastinating three times in the first hour. In total, I had to run around my neighborhood about 13 times. I wasn't counting, because... Well, I didn't think it would be that excessive. I'm hoping Day 2 will be easier on me.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, should I keep track of when I catch myself procrastinating, and count the amount of times I do it?
I've also realized that this method is also slowly having me lose my bad habits of staying inside all day, and using my computer all day.
DeleteWell the strategy work well I didn't apologize when I didn't have to once.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the strategy? You need to give us more about the situation and how you felt and your thoughts on the process of breaking the habit. I am glad it worked and keep it up!
DeleteI used my strategy and it worked. I got ready for school faster and got out of bed instead of staying in bed and watching tv.
ReplyDeleteWhat was your strategy? Let us know how you feel and your thoughts and whatever else is going on. I am glad it worked and keep it up!
Deletei have a new strategy that i can do. I can help my parents around the house when they need help.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your habit and how did it go? What were your thoughts and feeling about how the day went. Give everyone more insight to each day so we can support you in your goal!
DeleteThe strategy that i used worked. as soon as i got home i started my homework. now i am done and have the rest of my day to do stuff
ReplyDeleteToday went well this morning I was tempted to buy breakfast but I didn't when I got to my moms work I made it there . So it was a good day
